How the calculation works
Adding GST to a base price: tax = base × rate ÷ 100. Removing GST from an inclusive price: base = inclusive ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100) — so ₹1,180 at 18% is ₹1,000 base + ₹180 tax, not ₹1,180 − 18%.
CGST + SGST or IGST?
Same state on both sides → the tax splits equally into CGST and SGST. Different states → the whole amount is IGST. The total is identical either way; only the split on the invoice changes — which is why an invoicing tool should derive it from the two GSTINs, not ask you.
